Sr. Ignatius High School, founded in 2011 next to the Theotokos Girls’ Orphanage in Bakeswar, is one of the educational units of the Philanthropic Society of the Orthodox Church based in Kolkata.

Our dream came true!

The inauguration of the second building of the St. Ignatius High School in Bakesvar, West Bengal.
It was held on May 4, 2019 with a festive ceremony attended by the His Eminence Konstantinos, Metropolitan of Singapore and South Asia, the Director of the Philanthropic Projects in India Sister Nektaria , the Ambassador of Greece to India, Mr. Panos Kalogeropoulos, representatives of the Orthodox Church, official guests, and teachers and students of the school.
The new building will cover the ever-increasing number of students who qualify to continue to receive higher education and has a computer and science laboratories to provide a comprehensive education.

Children from the poorest families in the area are admitted to school either free of charge or with minimal tuition.

The school provides high-quality education in a safe, beautiful and pollution-free environment. Teaching courses are in English, Bengali, and Hindi, giving children a significant advantage in India’s increasingly globalized job market.

Dream the impossible

This new building was the dream of Sister Nektaria who is the Director of the Philanthropic Projects in India After years of trying to collect the funds to build it, now this dream came true,

Our present in India

The Philanthropic Society of the Orthodox Church, founded in Calcutta in 1993, is a non-profit organization (NGO) that manages the church and fortune of the historic Greek community that flourished in Bengal from the 18th to the 20th century AD. Apart from St. Ignatius High School, it has founded 6 primary schools and provides enormous charity and social work with the parallel creation and maintenance of several orphanages and health centers in West Bengal.
